Die Naumburger Kernfusion ist ein Projekt, das im Rahmen der 'Neuen Auftraggeber' als Kooperation zwischen dem Architektur- und Umwelthaus Naumburg (AUH) und dem Künstler Henrik Schrat realisiert wurde. Vermittler auf Seiten der 'Neuen Auftraggeber' war Frank Motz. Ab 2011 wurde ein Konzept für das AUH entwickelt, und nach erfolgreicher Finanzaquise umgesetzt.	In the town of Naumburg in east Germany a group of active architects and engineers founded in 2011 a center for communication and education in urbanism and ecology, the so called ‘House for architecture and environment’. They refurbished a ruined house from the 17^th century and wanted an art work to be developed for the house. In seinem Projekt bezieht sich Schrat auf einen wichtigen Moment in der Naumburger Identität, das jährlich stattfindende 'Kirschfest', das zur Erinnerung an die Belagerung durch die Hussiten 1432 abgehalten wird. Dieser Geschichte zufolge zogen die Krieger doch noch ab und schenkten den Naumburger Kindern noch Kirschen. Die Geschichte ist vielfach verarbeitet worden, in Liedern, Gedichten und einem im 19.Jh viel gespielten Theaterstück von Kotzebue 'Die Hussiten vor Naumburg' (1803). Wie so oft, ist die gesamte Geschichte erfunden, die Hussiten waren nie da.	In cooperation with the New Patrons, and moderator Frank Motz, artist Henrik Schrat was found. The art work was developed over the course of 4 years. It is called Die Naumburger Kernfusion (The Naumburg Nuclear Fusion / (Cherry) Stone Fusion). The title plays with the fact, that (cherry) stones and an atom nucleus are synonym in the German word KERN. The energy to be set free in a nuclear fusion can be read as the energy emerging, when loads of (Cherry) stones are join. Why cherry stones? That brings us in the middle of the project.
Hier setzt die Naumburger Kernfusion an, und zentraler Bestandteil ist eine Geschichte, die Henrik Schrat geschrieben hat, die in einem historisierenden Tonfall eine Vorgeschichte dazu schreibt, in der es um Kirschkerne geht. Das Architektur- und Umwelthaus ist eine Initiative die sich aus dem Engagement eines Bürgervereins entwickelt hat, und sich um Erziehung und Bildung im Umwelt- und Urbanistikbereich bemüht. Die Zusammenarbeit vieler setzt hier eine Energie frei, zu der eine Entsprechung im Begriff 'Kernfusion' entsteht.	A central moment of identitiy in Naumburg is the so called Cherry Festival. It is annually celebrated, to commemorate the siege of Naumburg by an army of Hussits in 1432. In the story children begged the army to leave, what they did, and they even gave the children cherries. This story actually never happened, but has created a moment of local identification. The center of the art project builds a text, written by the artist. Formulated in an historic tone, it presents the story before that, a kind of prequel. Thats the main plot: One day of the year, children of Naumburg are allowed to eat as much cherries as they want, but they are required to bring back the cherry stones, as a sign of gratitude. Over the years, the custom of building houses and even little towns with this cherry stones developes, so called stone-swarms. Die Geschichte führt zu zwei Ausformungen am Architektur- und Umwelthaus: Erstens ein Fries, der am Geländer am Flachbau im Hof angebracht ist, aus gelasertem 3 mm Stahlblech. Er zeigt 14 Silhouetten-Motive, die einfache Illustrationen der Geschichte sind. Formal bilden Silhouetten eine Parallele zu einer anderen Serie von Schattenrissen, die 1920 vom Naumburger Walter Hege geschaffen wurden. Sie zeigen die ursprüngliche Geschichte vom Kirschfest, waren damals als Illustrationen des Naumburger Notgeldes entstanden und erfreuen sich immer noch in Nauburg grosser Beliebtheit.	The artwork manifests in two ways: twelfe silhouettes, straight and simple illustrations of the story are cut from steel and function as a fence on a flat roof in the courtyard. They draw actually another line between Naumburg and the artist Henrik Schrat: The most visible images of the Cherry Festival story are silhouettes, drawn in 1923 as illustrations on local banknotes by a the Naumburg artist Walter Hege. They enjoy an enormous popularity still today. Henrik Schrat in turn has worked extensively with narrative silhouettes for two decades himself.
Zweite Ausformung der der Geschichte ist der sogenannte Kernschwarm, eine Deckenskulptur die im Durchgang des AUH befindet. Der Kernschwarm ist eine organische, biomorph anmutende Form, die mit Kirschkernen überzogen ist. Sie entspring einer Wand, und entfaltet sich entlang der Decke um dann das Glas in der Eingangstür zu durchstossen.	The second way, in which the fake-history visualizes, is a large sculpture. It represents a kind of ghost, a swarm of cherry stones as it appeares in the story. It is a real object, relating with the narrative space of the past. The swarm of cherry stones materialzes from a wall in the central corridor. It unfolds a mesmerizing physical presence, moves along the ceiling and leaves the house through the glas in the front door. The written story and the images of its illustration are given free of copyright to the ‘House for architecture and environment’ to be used. Cherry stones as material have now already been used in some workshops in the house, activities of collecting the cherry stones have supported the project, and prints of the motives on the fence start to circulate.
