Im thüringischen Greiz, der Heimatstadt des Künstlers, eröffnete 2011 die Vogtlandhalle, ein ambitionierter Neubau für Theater und Konzerte. Das Wandbild in der Eingangshalle verwebt die regionale (Industrie)geschichte mit vogtländischen Sagen. Eine ambivalente Narration entwickelt sich um die Reise des jungen Riesen Dreibart, der aus langem Schlaf erwacht und mit Verwunderung die geschäftige, kommerzielle Welt um sich herum wahrnimmt. Die Arbeit zitiert eine Reihe berühmter Künstler aus dem Vogtland, bildet einzelne Sehenswürdigkeiten aus der Region ab und erfasst damit zentrale Punkte lokaler Identität und Schrats persönlicher Geschichte.

Dreibart’s Journey
In the Thuringian city of Greiz, the artist’s home city, the Vogtlandhalle opened in 2011, an ambitious new building for theater and concerts. The mural in the lobby weaves together regional (industrial) stories with legends of the Vogtland. An ambivalent narration develops about the journey of the young giant Dreibart, who wakes from long slumber and perceives with astonishment the busy, commercial world around him. The work cites a number of well-known artists from the Vogtland, portrays individual sights from the region, and thus encompasses central aspects of local identity and Schrat’s personal history.
